Children's Day: A Letter to the Children We Once Were

Time: Jun 1,2026 Source: Quambo

When we were young, we always longed to grow up.

Then, somewhere along the way, we found ourselves looking back — missing that simpler version of ourselves, full of curiosity and unguarded enthusiasm.

This Children's Day, we want to extend our warmest wishes not only to the children in our lives, but to every one of us who was once a child too.

Because we all started there.

Over time, we've navigated studies, careers, responsibilities, and pressures. Through each of life's challenges, we've grown more mature and resilient — and perhaps, in some ways, more guarded and tired.

Our minds have developed, our lives have changed, and time has left its mark on each of us. And yet, there are moments when we feel, quite suddenly, that we are still that child — wanting to be understood, to be cared for, to let our guard down, even just for a moment. Hoping that amid the demands of work and daily life, we can still hold onto a little of our own softness, spontaneity, and wonder.

"Guess Who?" — A Childhood Photo Challenge

This Children's Day, we invited our team to look back at their younger selves.

Over the past few days, colleagues reached into their personal archives and shared childhood photos — faded snapshots full of warmth, nostalgia, and a glimpse of who we each were at the very beginning.

Can you match the photo to the person?

Perhaps we are no longer the little ones in those pictures. But the part of us that once looked at the world with genuine attention, ran with abandon, and expressed joy and sadness without hesitation — that part has never really left.

We hope this small activity offered everyone a chance to reconnect with their younger selves, and to carry that spirit forward: into work, into daily life, and into the relationships we cherish — whether brief or lasting.

A Gift That Connects Work and Curiosity

In previous years, Children's Day gifts at our company were primarily for colleagues with children. This year, we wanted to extend that gesture to everyone — to every member of our team who shows up, works hard, and brings dedication to what we do together.

Our gift this year is a popular science book tied to the work we do every day: Understanding Rocks.

For those of us in the engineering industry, we work constantly with the ground beneath our feet — soil layers, rock formations, field conditions. Geotechnical work isn't only parameters on drawings or data in reports; it is the real and complex world we engage with every single day.

We hope this book offers a fresh, accessible way to explore rocks, land, and the natural world — something you can read on your own, share with a child, or enjoy with family. It's a science read for everyone, and we hope it also helps the people around you better understand what you face, think through, and solve in your work.

May it spark a new kind of connection between your daily work and the world it touches: a deeper appreciation for geotechnical science, a renewed interest in your field, and a little more love for what we do.

May we never lose our curiosity and passion, no matter how grown up we become.

Happy Children's Day ❤️

— To every one of our team members who was once a wide-eyed kid
